The Spotlight is on... Judy Emsley I have been a Rotarian for about 17 years now and enjoy meeting with you each week. More importantly, I appreciate the great work Rotary does for our community every year, and am honored to have done some small part to make it possible. Even more remarkable is being part of Rotary’s worldwide projects to make human lives everywhere healthier and happier. I am proud to be a member of this great club! I was born in Canton, Ohio and lived there until 1950 when we traveled to Columbus, Mississippi where both my parents worked for the U.S. Air Force, my father as a flight instructor, and my mother as a Link instructor (for those who don’t know, that was a small wooden flight simulator to teach instrument flight). From Columbus we were transferred to Moore Field in Mission, Texas. My father had been an Army Air Corp flight instructor in Lamesa, Texas at the beginning of World War II, so they were thrilled to return to Texas! I grew up in McAllen, and aside from a few years spent in Lubbock, I have been a Valley girl every since! I graduated from the old McHi in McAllen, and also earned a bachelor’s degree from UTPA, majoring in Biology and English. I began my teaching career in Rio Hondo in 1972, then moved to Harlingen CISD in 1976 where I taught in junior high for ten years before transferring to Harlingen High. From there I served as Instructional Facilitator at Harlingen South for nine years. My favorite teaching assignment was Marine Science. I have two children, Matthew and Kathleen. I am now retired and keep busy with gardening, motorcycling, and collecting vintage Native American jewelry. |
