The Spotlight is on... Alan Johnson! Alan Johnson is a 1971 graduate of Texas A & I University with a Bachelor of Science Degree. Upon graduation he was commissioned into the United States Army and after his service began a career in banking. He is a graduate of the National Commercial Lending School at the University of Oklahoma and the Southwestern Graduate School of Banking at Southern Methodist University. Johnson served in various banking roles and retired as Market President & Regional Manager of a large Southern Bank in 2009. From 2011-2014, Johnson served as President & CEO of the Valley Baptist Legacy Foundation, which grew from approximately $20 million in assets to over $300 million during his tenure. One of Johnson’s proudest accomplishments is his decades-long fight to bring an Interstate Highway to the Rio Grande Valley. He chaired a coalition responsible for bringing Interstate 69 to South Texas. He also chaired the RGV Mobility Group responsible for the rebuilding of the expressway from Brownsville to Mission. Through his efforts in developing Texas highways and international trade routes, Governor George Bush twice appointed Johnson to the Texas Turnpike Authority where he served as Vice Chair. Johnson continues to serve as Chair of the Port of Harlingen Authority. Of particular note is that Johnson served as Chair of the $2 million capital campaign that was the basis to rebuild the Sunny Glen Children’s Home. Johnson has been elected to both the Rio Grande Valley Walk of Fame and Harlingen Walk of Fame. He served as President of two Rotary Clubs and other accomplishments include: two terms on the Texas Veterans Land Board, Chairman of the Rio Grande Valley Partnership & Harlingen Chamber of Commerce, as well as the Valley Baptist Hospital Health System. Additionally Johnson has served as a board member to the Sunny Glen Children’s Home, the Border Trade Alliance, Harlingen Downtown Revitalization Committee, United Way and American Cancer Society. He currently serves the Rio Grande Council of the Boy Scouts of America and St. Paul Lutheran Church. In October 2018, he was selected as one of five Outstanding Alumnus of Texas A & M University, Kingsville. As President of Legacy Investment Properties and A & E Johnson Properties, Johnson continues to enhance the economic development of South Texas. |
