During the spring semester many Rotary Clubs hold a Four-Way Test Speech Competition. It is a competition offered to high school students where the student must prepare a five to seven minute speech to illustrate the Rotary Four-Way Test.
The student is judged on Content (50%), Organization (30%), and Delivery (20%). The student must follow the Four-Way Test Theme throughout, must relate the speech to his/her own activities, must present a human-interest appeal, and must choose language that is clear, vivid and persuasive. The student must demonstrate organization of thought including an introduction, clear and orderly points and a brief conclusion that drives home the point of application. And finally, the student must be effective in his or her speech delivery including volume, grammar, gestures and attitude toward the audience.
Current City Commissioner, District 5 – sworn into office 12/31/2012 Involved in Harlingen Area Chamber of Commerce as an Ambassador since Oct 2005 and believe that networking is the key to running a successful business. I was given a gem a few years ago that has become my mantra to success:
Be on time
Do what you say you’re going to do
Finish what you started
Say THANK YOU!
Owned and operated Cybernation since 1995 and turned a part-time business into a full-time employment in 2005. I service almost 200 unique customers a month, which gives me great networking opportunities. I have been a Rotarian since just after my election. I joined Rotary after visiting with Bill Reagan and discovering the 4 way test at work. This is what I wanted in my life and the “Service Above Self” fit right into my belief system. Married to my wife Sylvia for 18 years and have a blended family of 4 girls and 1 boy. We have been blessed by 5 grandchildren. We attend Grace Point Fellowship church. Besides being very involved in our City and Chamber activities, I enjoy cooking home repair and yardwork. I am currently remodeling a home that I recently purchased as a project. There is nothing greater in life that to look back a see the results of hard work. THANK YOU!
