📣 MY FELLOW ROTARIAN,

On Friday, we had the honor of hearing from David Leija, a San Benito native and founder of TKO (Tolerance Kindness Overcomes). David shared the story behind TKO, an organization created to combat bullying and encourage understanding among young people.

He also introduced us to his children’s book, TK’s First Lesson, the first in a series designed to help kids navigate important emotional and social challenges, including diversity, shyness, and tolerance. Through his work, David reminded us that education is not only about academics but also about fostering empathy and respect, which are essential building blocks for lifelong learning.

His message was especially meaningful during Rotary’s Basic Education and Literacy Month, underscoring how teaching kindness and acceptance strengthens the foundation for stronger schools, healthier communities, and a more inclusive world.

🗳️ Bylaws Update – Honorary Membership

As part of our commitment to strengthening club operations and upholding Rotary values, the Board has approved a proposed update to our bylaws regarding Honorary Membership. This addition defines eligibility, outlines annual review procedures, and clarifies expectations for honorary members.

In accordance with Article 16, this is the second of two required bulletin notices. Club members will vote on the amendment on Friday, Sept. 26.

Your voice matters in this process. Thank you for taking part in shaping the future of our club and helping us remain strong in service to our community and the Rotary mission.

Highlights of the Proposed Add-On:

  • Must have served as a Rotarian for 15+ years

  • Suggested minimum age: 70

  • Annual Board review each July

  • No dues required

  • Interact/Rotaract sponsors may receive honorary status at no cost

  • Honorary members may attend meetings but do not vote or count toward quorum

💙A big shout-out to President-Elect Belinda and the team for stepping up while I was away - this is Rotary in action!

As we close out Basic Education and Literacy Month 📚✏️, let’s remember that education never stops. Every lesson we share, every mind we inspire, and every opportunity we create helps shape brighter futures, strengthens our communities, and embodies the Rotary ideal of service above self.
