Orlando Campos serves as the new CEO of the Harlingen Economic Development Corporation. He was appointed to this position in June by the EDC Board and City Council following a nationwide search.
Campos has over 27 years of experience in economic development. He began his career with the Brownsville Economic Development Council (BEDC) as Director of Marketing. An offer from Valley International Airport to be Director of Business Development brought him to Harlingen, but the BEDC pulled him back a few years later as their Vice President of Business Development.
In 2007 Campos left the Valley to broaden his economic development skills. He was offered a position with the Arlington Chamber of Commerce to be their new Senior Director of Business and Community Development, and in 2011 he was recruited to launch the new Economic Development Department for the Town of Addison in North Dallas County. A few years into his job in Addison, he was also entrusted with taking over the tourism functions of the community.
His efforts in North Texas led to several accolades from the Dallas Business Journal, International Economic Development Council, Texas Economic Development Council, and the Texas Association of Convention & Visitor Bureaus. D Magazine also recognized him as one of the most influential business leaders in the Metroplex.
A native of Brownsville. Campos is the youngest of 12 children and is a graduate of Columbia University in New York with a degree in Urban Studies--specialization in History. After 16 years of living in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex, Campos now calls the Harlingen area his new home.
