In keeping with our monthly theme: Basic Education and Literacy, we've invited Dr. Guy Bailey, President of UTRGV, to be our guest speaker for this Friday, September 15!
Guy Bailey was named the first president at The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley in 2014. During his tenure, Bailey’s commitment to providing a high-quality education at an affordable price, has helped UTRGV become one of the fastest-growing universities in the nation and has elevated the university’s stature around the state and the country. The university enrolled over 32,000 students in Fall 2020, becoming one of only nine public institutions in Texas to boast an enrollment of over 30,000.
Additionally, UTRGV recently become one of just 24 institutions to earn the prestigious Seal of Excelencia from Excelencia in Education for its unwavering commitment to intentionally serving Latino students, while serving all. In 2019 he was named Border Texan of the Year for his contributions to education and health care in the Rio Grande Valley.
Prior to UTRGV, Baily served as president at The University of Alabama and Texas Tech University; chancellor of the University of Missouri-Kansas City; and provost and executive vice president of The University of Texas San Antonio. Bailey obtained his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in English from The University of Alabama and a doctorate in English linguistics from The University of Tennessee.

In the spirit of Hispanic Heritage Month the Hilton will be serving chicken fajitas enchiladas, rice and beans! Yum! Ladies feel free to dress in your favorite Hispanic festive attire and men in your classic “guayabera!”
