"Seriously, stop giggling, the entire church is looking at us. I'm going to dig my nails into your leg. Please stop." - My mother, Colleen Albury, Christmas Service, 1999
Good Morning Harlingen Rotary! I hope your weekend was a great one in spite of the rains. Last week we were so fortunate to have HCISD present to our club on the growth of Blended Learning in our schools. Thanks to Dr. Hruska, Dr. Noyola, and all the officials who took the time to keep our community informed about the successes of our future leaders.
Thank you to all the Rotarians who showed up for our Highway Trash Pick-up on Saturday morning. Thanks to the 27 cadets from Marine Military Academy, we finished our two mile stretch in less than two hours! That may be a new record.
This week we have local author and humorist Marge Fados speaking to the club about the importance of laughter with regards to a healthy life. She has presented to other clubs in the area and all agreed it was a great, fun presentation.
SERVICE PROJECTS:
Our drive to support the Harlingen Humane Society is ongoing. Thank you to all those who have contributed and donated! Any contributions of dog and cat food, or monetary donations would be appreciated! We will go as a group after our meeting on Friday to give our donations. Please bring your items to this week's meeting so we can take them, or contact Sumer Knight (512) 808-3776 to make arrangements.
Also, in a bit of sad news, our longtime Rotarian and friend, Mr. Juan Salas passed away over the weekend. Juan and his wife Connie have been longtime supporters of all things Harlingen and he leaves a legacy of service that we call all aspire to reach. Godspeed Juan, our thoughts and prayers are with Connie and the entire Salas family during this time.
