Joint Health Insights with Dr. Zain Sayeed

The Rotary Club enjoyed an engaging and timely presentation from Dr. Zain Sayeed, MD, MHA, fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon with the DHR Health Orthopedic Institute, who joined us as our guest speaker on January 23 🩺. Dr. Sayeed specializes in hip and knee joint replacement and completed advanced training in adult reconstruction at Harvard Medical School–affiliated Massachusetts General Brigham.

The topic of joint health and mobility struck a familiar and appreciated chord with our members, prompting a few knowing smiles and more than a little nodding around the room 🙂. Dr. Sayeed’s discussion quickly piqued interest as he addressed common concerns about staying active, moving comfortably, and maintaining quality of life 🚶‍♂️🚶‍♀️.

Importantly, Dr. Sayeed emphasized that surgery is not always the first or only solution. He stressed the importance of understanding all available options before considering surgical intervention, including lifestyle adjustments, physical therapy, and other non-surgical treatments. His modern, patient-centered approach resonated strongly and encouraged thoughtful, informed decision-making 💡.

The club sincerely appreciated Dr. Sayeed’s approachable style, practical insights, and his ability to make a complex topic both informative and relatable 🤝.

We are pleased to welcome Sylvia Garza‑Perez, Cameron County Clerk, as our Rotary Club speaker on January 30 🎙️. Sylvia serves as the elected County Clerk for Cameron County, leading an office that preserves vital public records including court documents, property records, and marriage licenses while also expanding public access through efficient, modern services 📜.

Ms. Garza‑Perez brings a strong commitment to public service, organizational excellence, and civic engagement. She will share insights on the vital role of the County Clerk, the importance of accurate and accessible records, and how her office serves as a cornerstone of our community 🎯.

Her presentation is especially timely as we close out Vocational Service Month, highlighting the value of professional skills, ethical leadership, and dedication to serving others. We look forward to learning from her experience and seeing how vocational excellence strengthens both our community and everyday lives 🤝.

As we close out Rotary Vocational Service Month 💼, it’s a great time to reflect on the dignity of work and our responsibility to use our professions to serve others. Last week, we were inspired by Dr. Zain Sayeed, fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon, who shared valuable insights on joint health, mobility, and improving quality of life 🎤. Thank you, Dr. Sayeed, for an informative and engaging presentation!

Rotary also recommits to serving with purpose 🤝. This month, our club answered the call to action by collecting items to support community members during the cold weather, demonstrating our commitment to Service Above Self ❄️. Donations for Loaves & Fishes 🍞🐟 were also gathered, and we proudly collected 19 units of blood at our recent drive 🩸. These acts of service show the tangible impact we make together.

And yes, don’t forget to keep selling Shrimp Fest tickets! 🍤 Your support makes this our biggest fellowship and fundraising event of the year. We’re also looking for auction items, so please spread the word and help us make our 30th Annual Shrimp Fest a success!

As Vocational Service Month comes to a close, let’s carry its spirit forward using our skills, dedication, and generosity to serve our community and make a difference every day. Thank you all for your continued commitment to Service Above Self.

Join us in supporting the Harlingen Hunger Coalition — a city-wide effort to lift up our neighbors when they need it most. We’re all one tough day away from needing a helping hand. Your donation helps ensure no family in Harlingen faces hunger alone.
