Tom Hushen currently serves as the Emergency Management Coordinator and Chief of the County Fire Marshal’s Division for Cameron County, Texas, where he reports directly to the county's highest elected official, the county Judge. In this role, he has led efforts to strengthen the security of county facilities and has been instrumental in developing countywide public safety communications system.
Tom plays a critical role in coordinating emergency operations planning for major regional industries, including SpaceX, AEP, TransMontaigne and Rio Grande LNG, while also championing the inclusion of small cities and rural communities in regional emergency planning. He is actively engaged in supporting disaster preparedness and response across seven counties and has been appointed by the Governor’s Office to serve on two State of Texas boards. He has a 37 year career in law enforcement and continues to serve as an instructor for the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement and remains actively involved in advancing public safety and community resilience.
